About Getting to Zlatibor by train and taxi

Getting to Zlatibor without a car is easy and inexpensive: a regional train from Belgrade to Užice, then a short taxi ride up to the plateau. Here is how it works, what it costs and how to get the best fare.

The route

There is no railway station on Zlatibor itself, but there is an easy and very affordable way to get there without a car: take the train from Belgrade to Užice, the nearest town on the line, then a taxi for the last 24 kilometres up the mountain. The train journey is scenic, with the hills of western Serbia rolling past the window, and the taxi climbs from the valley through forests to the plateau.

The train to Užice

Regional trains run from Zemun to Užice on the Belgrade to Bar line. A second-class ticket costs 864 RSD, around €7.40 or £6.20, if you buy it in advance through the official Srbijavoz app. Buy your ticket before you board: tickets bought from the conductor on the train cost around 500 RSD more.

The taxi from Užice to Zlatibor

From Užice, it is about 24 kilometres by road to the centre of Zlatibor. A taxi typically costs between 1,600 and 2,900 RSD, around €14 to €25 or £11.50 to £21, and local taxi companies often charge a set fare of about 2,500 RSD for the trip. The price is per car, not per person, so it is even better value if you are travelling with others.

Always agree a fixed price, fiksna cena in Serbian, with the driver before you get in, rather than relying on the meter. Local companies such as Bravo Taxi Užice and Leptir Taxi regularly drive this route, and your hotel on Zlatibor can usually arrange a taxi to meet you at the station.

Other ways to get there

Direct coaches run from the main bus station in Belgrade to Zlatibor several times a day, and the journey takes around four hours. By car, the drive from Belgrade takes about three and a half to four hours.

Our advice: download the Srbijavoz app before you travel and buy your train ticket in advance, check the timetable for the return journey too, and keep some cash in Serbian dinars for the taxi. Prices were checked in October 2026 and can change, so confirm fares when you book.
