About Belgrade Waterfront district

Belgrade Waterfront is the new city centre rising on the right bank of the Sava, below the old town and the old merchant quarter of Savamala.

The back story

Until 2015 this stretch of the Sava was railway land: tracks, sheds and the old Main Station, built in the 1880s on a drained marsh known as Bara Venecija. Above it, the old merchant quarter of Savamala had slowly declined. When trains moved to the new Belgrade Centre station, the riverbank was handed to Belgrade Waterfront, a joint venture between Serbia and Abu Dhabi’s Eagle Hills.

The district today

In ten years a new city centre has risen: more than 30 apartment and office towers, the 168-metre Belgrade Tower with The St. Regis Belgrade and the 360 Deck, Galerija, billed as the largest shopping centre in Southeast Europe, riverside restaurants and the Sava Promenade, a walk of several kilometres along the water. Schools, kindergartens, parks and new tram and metro links are planned as it grows towards 2045.
